CHARACTER
Character Name: James Sirius Potter
Canon: Harry Potter
Age: Presumeably between 12 and 15, going with 14 since it seems about his age in filmverse.
Timeline: After the Epilogue in Deathly Hallows, shortly after getting on the train to Hogwarts.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: My default assumption is that they never manage to be in the same place at the same time due to ~shenanigans~.

Personality: The keystone of James's personality is mischief. He is named after two Marauders and has also shown some influence from Fred and George's genes, in his manner of teasing his siblings and sticking his nose where he aught not. If the James Potter books are to be treated as canon, James has definitely inherited Harry Potter's habit of running into trouble by total accident, and letting curiosity get the best of him. He has also stolen the Marauder's map in canon, which proves the sense of adventure found in breaking the rules runs deep in the Potter line.

James is also shown to have inherited a bit of Ron via his mother. He tends to interrupt and interfere quite a bit with love lives, and has some pretty horrible timing in general. During the epilogue James is shown interrupting Victoire and Teddy kissing, running off to tell his family, and then being rather disappointed when they didn't have impressive reactions to it. Which also hints that he may have been given his namesakes' need to wow others with their antics.

Still, like Harry and like the Weasley family, James very likely has inherited a strong sense of loyalty and gravity toward his loved ones. If his genes are anything to go by, he can be trusted to be the type who would rather kill than let his friends or family get hurt. Even though he and Albus clearly fight a lot (Harry mentioning he'll only want them sharing a room when he wants the house demolished) there is also a brotherly bond there, as there is with his cousins and his little sister Lily. Bravery runs deep in the Potter line, and stubbornness runs deep in the Weasley family. These two traits bond well, making him a very good ally to have.

Aside from that, James seems a bit people-dumb. His timing is off similarly to Ron in that he doesn't really make sure the moment is right, he just breaks right in with whatever his thought was. This hints that he might be a bit socially awkward, though it's unclear if that's teenage awkwardness or Weasley awkwardness. Possibly a mix of both, seeing as Harry showed a bit of it too at that age.

Also interesting to note is that, while he teased Albus about possibly being a Slytherin, James seems like the type of kid who would be proud to stand by any house he were sorted into and any friends he happened to make, because he's just got that much blindly loyal blood in him. In fact his father's godson Teddy has already been accepted as part of his family mostly because they're friends (and egged on by the fact that Victoire fancies him).

History: James only appears in the epilogue, but it does a good job of explaining where he stands. He was born presumeably in 2004 (headcanon), the first of three children born to Harry Potter and Ginny Potter (nee Weasley). He developed a strong bond with his siblings, Albus and Lily, which also extended to his cousins, Rose and Hugo, and Harry's godson, Teddy Lupin. James, being the oldest, was the first to go to Hogwarts and (judging from his personality) was sorted into Griffindor.

At some point during his stay at Hogwarts he stole the Marauder's Map from his father. He has probably kept this a secret from his friends; he has a gang that may very well become the next generation of Marauders. Teddy may be among them, seeing as James shows a particular affection for him and sees him as immediate family. They would have formed this bond possibly before Hogwarts, and there's a good chance Teddy (being older) helped James out when he first got invited to Hogwarts.

Being the chosen one's son must have gotten to his head a bit. Having inherited Harry's rebellious self-worth, it's almost inevitable that James would hold himself a bit higher than everyone else because his dad saved the world. This probably made some sort of tension with those around him, but he does have a point. His dad did kind of save humanity. But that does mean that the two generations of Potters thus far have paved a very smooth road for James breaking rules and being expected to get into trouble, and that would be much too irresistible for him. he's probably been getting into crazy adventures since the day he set foot in the castle.

He is now 14, in his fourth year at Hogwarts, and has just helped his brother and cousin Rose onto the train to Hogwarts. He was shown teasing Albus and joking around, and the bulk of his characterization was shown at this point. And then he started shipping Teddy and Victoire. Now he will awake alone on the train and royally freak out at Ruby City.

Abilities: James is a fourth-year wizarding student, so he's got a pretty firm grasp of magic by now. With his wand in hand he can cast anything from simple charms to complex hexes and has begun entering into the wonders of patronuses and complex Dark Arts defense (younger than most, probably, because of his dad). Presumeably he can conjure a shapeless patronus, perform any spell mentioned in the first four Harry Potter books and have a reasonable grasp on potions, transfiguration and similar topics.

And knowing his personality, James is probably pretty fit for running away to escape trouble. Nothing superhuman, just nice athletics. Per headcanon he's probably a quidditch player like his dad, mom, uncles and grandfather before him. There's a good chance he's acceptionally good at flying, seeing as both the Weasleys and the Potters had choice fliers in their families.

Relationships to Canon Characters: He is the son of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley, older brother of Albus Severus Potter and Lily Luna Potter, nephew of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and his namesakes are James Potter and Sirius Black. And he is technically a canon character himself.

First Person: Excuse me? Excuse me, has anyone- can someone help me?

[Have a worried kid with a mop of black hair, glancing around the train station nervously as he talks into his watch. Which is surprisingly normal for him... it's funny what a wizard can get used to.]

I'm looking for Harry Potter. Everyone knows him, right? I'm his son. Please, can someone help me? I got lost and I need to get back to school. [A pause.] There are wizards around here, right? I missed my stop somehow, I need to get to Hogwarts. Will someone please for the love of god pick up?

Third Person: James woke up in a bit of a stupor. Oh, he'd forgotten to change into his robes... they were still in the briefcase he'd been napping on, though. His owl chirped contentedly, preening its feathers as if nothing were wrong. But something was wrong; his brother and cousin were missing. He was completely alone on this train, aside from his pet. Well, his parents had been thorough with what to do in this situation; get off at the nearest train station and try to figure out where you are.

So off he went, luggage and owl cage in hand, stepping off at the platform and looking around for signs of where he might be. Didn't look like London. Didn't even look like England, not really. And it was definitely not Hogwarts. More concerningly, he couldn't see anyone around. How had he managed to get himself in such a mess?

"Hello?" calling out proved totally useless. He sighed and went about searching through his pockets idly for something useful. Among candy wrappers and movie ticket stubs he found his phone and a watch. Oh boy. The phone was useless, there was no signal here. Very odd for a city this size. But the watch... it didn't seem very ordinary. And so he inspected it.

And that was how James Potter ended up accessing the network.
